As you can see from the photos below, the Black Eyed Susans have exploded in this field. And that's not a huge surprise, as Black Eyed Susans are quite hardy and will grow pretty much anywhere. What is remarkable is that this field is little more than an abandoned lot located across from the Air Force Memorial. Just a few years ago, this space was a parking lot and now it's a buzzing field.
Apparently Black Eyed Susans are pioneer plant, often being the first to appear after a natural disaster. I'd say going from concrete to soil probably fits this description.
One has to wonder though, were these planted intentionally? The results are pretty striking and I'd give the developers serious bonus points for actually putting some interesting looking plants in the unused space. Or is this just nature being its own guerrilla gardener? Either way, the results are quite impressive at the moment.
