Here's a great example of one of my new favorite terms: descending redundancy. From Steve McGrane's photo stream on flickr:
Got up REAL early to get this shot .when I got there the sky looked look it was on fire it was so red .set up tri pod put on filters got all excited about the shot pressed the shutter and nothing then realise I forgot my memory cards F##K .had to take the shot on my phone

I've run into this exact issue before. To help combat it, whenever I take my SD card or battery out of my camera, I make sure to leave the small "door" open to the slot. That makes it harder to walk out of the house with a camera shaped paperweight.
