Like I said previously, I'm trying to get into the habit of donating blood. But, giving whole blood, which takes about 10-15 minutes is nice, but just a drop in the bucket (sorry, couldn't resist) in the scheme of things. To really step it up a notch, I wanted to get back into donating platelets.
Donating platelets involves removing some blood, separating the platelets, and putting the blood back in. Of course, a machine does this, so it's all automatic. The process takes about an hour or so, and is only mildly discomforting.
But think, for an hour you get to sit and have some quiet time - watch a movie (or at least start one), listing or read a book, or just sit under warmed blankets and chill.
As experiences go, today's donation went well. It sure is nice to know that no what craziness happened today, I did something good this morning.
You can signup to donate here: here. I like that I'm able to schedule a month ahead of time, so I won't chicken out on the day of the donation.
Special thanks and big time get-well wishes to my friend Matt, who's currently battling cancer. He's inspired me to get off my butt and donate. Wish there was more I could do to help, but at least I'm able to send some serious karma points his way.
And here's the obligatory picture to prove, that yes, I really was donating platelets this morning.
