Some time ago I blogged about how wonderful the GMail offline functionality was. All of a sudden, I could be in a car or plane and could read and search my Google mail, and queue up messages to send out. Best of all, it worked with Google Apps, which is what powers our company E-mail.
And then one day, the offline e-mail functionality disappeared. Poof, it was gone.
Yesterday, before a little car trip, I was determined to get it re-enabled. After much Googling around, I found this thread which explained the problem. Apparently, Google has added a feature to Google Apps that allows you to control whether or not your user accounts have access to the latest Google features - one of which is GMail offline.
To enable this, you need to:
- Log into the admin Google Apps account, the one with the Manage this domain as an option
- Click Manage this domain
- Click Domain settings
- Make sure Turn on new features checkbox is checked:
Give your account about 20 minutes to catch up. You should now have access to Offline e-mail, and any other features Google is offering.
