If you don't usually listen to country music, you should give Radio Country Club a listen. It seems to be a nice blend of more rock 'in country (with a bit of bluegrass mixed in) versus the usual what-you-hear-on-the-radio country. Trust me, it's worth a try.
But the best part by far are the commercials - the stream is, apparently, being broadcast in France. So all the commercials and station announcements are in French. It's hilarious. One minute you're hearing some Southerner talk about drinking too much and the next minute you've got Pepe Le Pew going on about something or another. Priceless.
I love the internet.
Just click here to listen.
And here's the clever quote for the night from a song I heard earlier today:
I wear the pants in this house, but she picks them out for me
Well initially I wanted to write a quick comment just making fun of the idea of 'French' country music but I decided that it would be more fun to first give the station a try.
ReplyDeleteFirst I must say that I'm a big fan of country music to begin with, but this station... it is really good. Its not that typical modern country stuff, but good classic drunken bar country music. The kind of country music you stop and actually listen to the lyrics. So for the last 4-5 hours, I been sitting here working away bobbing my head... until the friendly French dj comes on, then I have to pause and chuckle that I'm listening to good country music on a French radio station.
Ben thanks for pointing it out, it is now one my my top only radio stations in my list. On a side note, isn't online radio great... no more worrying if my music is all legal and junk, the music isn't mine, it online and I'm just listening like any other radio station.
Nick,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I'm not going crazy! Yeah, the music is good stuff and the French DJ is just too much.
Yeah, I'm glad I discovered shoutcast - it sure does open up all sorts of possibilities.
It's not as fancy as Pandora, but sometimes, that's a good thing too.
When I’m looking for the latest country music, I always end up in one spot – 103.1 WIRK. I was even lucky enough to catch up with Keith Van Allen in the streets and got free ‘Rib Round Up’ tickets. Just one of the many events that keep me tuned into www.wirk.com
